Celebrating Father’s Day with Sears #GrillingIsHappiness #Giveaway

All summer long my family gathers outdoors. The kids play in the yard while my husband mans the grill. We spend most evening as a family preparing dinner and we like to grill out as much as possible. Grilling enables the whole family to spend more time together as a family while enjoying the great outdoors.

My husband especially loves to grill and he is great at it. He likes to find new marinades and rubs and he loves to try new recipes whenever given the chance. He is my family’s grilling specialist and when it comes to grilling I defer to his expertise. Like any art form, the correct tools are essential.

A broken handle, a rusty grate, and a shredded grill cover are not the best tools to use when trying to create a grilling masterpiece. We received our grill well over six years ago from my parents and it has not held up well over the years. In fact it is falling apart. I decided that for Father’s Day this year my husband deserved a new grill that was fully functional and looked great.

Before and After Grill
This weekend we went to Sears to pick out a new grill and some great grilling accessories for my husband’s Father’s Day gift from the whole family. I knew that I wanted to make this purchase through Sears after I had the opportunity to peruse my Sears Local Ad as well as their online catalog.

After spending a fun filled afternoon at the local Sears store we found just what we were looking for. Everyone had an opinion and everyone needed to experiment with all of the grills!

My son is already trying to man the grill!

A fire engine red grill has caught my childs eye!

To make my shopping experience even better I was able to get free assembly on my grill! I was also able to sign up for the Shop Your Way Rewards program {which is a free rewards program} through Sears. Since I used my Sears credit card I earned 2x the reward points and saved 5% on my purchase! We could not be happier with this purchase. We saved money and earned rewards! We will definitely be heading back to Sears next month to purchase our new washer and dryer.

We have been a big fan of Kenmore and look forward to using our Kenmore grill all summer long. To celebrate the purchase of his new grill my husband decided to make one last meal on our old grill as a final farewell. He used his brand new grilling accessories to make grilled Greek chicken {and it was delicious}. He has been kind enough to share the recipe and some grilling tips and tricks.

Grilled Greek Chicken
Preperation Time: 20 minutes
Marinate Time: 4 – 12 hours
Grill Time: 30 – 40 minutes

Greek Chicken

What you need:
  • 6-8 boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • ¼ cup red wine {He uses Merlot}
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon of sliced lemon peel
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 clove of garlic- minced
  • A pinch of salt and pepper {about ¼ teaspoon}
  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese

How to make it:
  1. In a mixing bowl combine red wine, olive oil, red onion, lemon peel, oregano, rosemary, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place the boneless skinless chicken thighs in a re-sealable plastic bag, pour marinate into the bag, seal the bag, and turn the bag over to coat the chicken in the marinate.
  3. Marinate the chicken in the refrigerator for 4 – 12 hours prior to grilling.
  4. Preheat grill {gas grill} and reduce heat to medium.
  5. Drain chicken thighs and reserve marinate to brush on the chicken.
  6. Place chicken on grill rack over heat. Cover and grill for 30 – 40 minutes {or until chicken is no longer pink and has reached 180°F}, turning once halfway through {brush with marinate once after turning and then discard remaining marinate}.
  7. Remove chicken thighs from grill and sprinkle with feta cheese.
Making Marinade

When making Grilled Greek Chicken we pair it with a Greek pasta salad and whole wheat dinner rolls. For desert we slice up some watermelon and get messy!

Father and Son grilling

Since my husband loves to grill he has decided to share some of his tips and tricks for being successful when manning the grill.
  • Don’t over marinate – Most foods only require a short amount of time to marinate. If soaked too long some food turns to mush and other food gets tough.
  • When using a rub be gentle.
  • Know when your meat is done. Pay attention to the time you are cooking and if all else fails use a meat thermometer to get an accurate reading on the readiness of your food.
  • Don’t pour water on a flare up! Reduce the heat and place the lid on the grill.
